Behavior Modification

 Modification class is at the dog center with the exception of Separation Anxiety and Car Riding Anxiety which are home visits. Using positive reinforcement, sometimes negative (time-out-taking you and fun away), and using desensitization and counter conditioning. All modification methods used are in line with LIMA — Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive. 

Some common behavior problems: crate training should be a safe, secure, happy place. House-training is about ten rules for success which can be at the dog center or your home. Nipping/mouthing is a carry-over from puppy play and usually discouraged in favor of a reinforcement for a good alternate behavior. Leash/harness arguments or reactivity can be solved in a similar way. Dog food dish/place/toy/person guarding is also about counter-conditioning. Door bolting, watchdog type barking and jumping usually can be remedied from clicker type training and basic obedience work in Life Skills classes. More sensitive modification work such as with anxieties would need to be managed and trained at home with weekly homework.
