For each breed there is a breed standard which is a word description of the perfect dog of that breed. Standards describe the mental and physical characteristics that allow each breed to perform the function for which they were originated. The standard describes the dog’s looks, movement and temperament. Breeders involved with each breed are attempting to produce a dog that most closely conforms to the breed standard. Judges examine the dogs and place them in accordance to how close each dog compares with their mental image of the “perfect” dog as described in the breed’s official standard.
Conformation class for beginner dogs and handlers, including junior handlers.
This 4 session/ 4 week class will cover the basics of showing your dog in "beauty" shows, both AKC and UKC. Gaiting, stacking, baiting, leash handling, and breed specific presentation will be covered. We will also cover proper attire, necessary gear for the dogs, and some light grooming advice. Handlers will be able to complete the typical patterns of gaiting at a dog show, stack their dog on the ground and/or table, and understand the basics of following judges directions at end of 4 weeks. Their dog will be well on their way to understanding their job as well. Juniors can feel free to bring mixed breed dogs, as they are allowed in UKC and 4H juniors programs. You dog or puppy should walk on a leash, and not be reactive towards other dogs or people.
$100 per 4 sessions per month
