Southern Minnesota’s Fully Certified Most Experienced Dog Training Expert

For 11 years, Paws 4 Fun Dog Training has served Owatonna and surrounding Southern Minnesota communities, and is located conveniently at the corner of CR-2 (Old Hwy. 14) & CR-7 (39th Ave), close to I-35.  Open since 2011, our expanded, fully-matted 3000 sq. ft. air conditioned/heated dog training facility has the goal of providing both a superior customer experience and tremendous value to our clients. Dog Agility Training:  De-stress from life, exercise, and have fun with your dog. Dog Obedience Training:  We all like a dog who comes when called and behaves.  The dog sees it as quality time with positive rewards, both verbal and with treats.  An important relationship is built by training!

Unlike other dog training environments, all of our classes are private — 30/60 minute personal classes with small steps which builds on success.  Dog agility obstacles are learned gradually, but are also taught in sequences.  Intermediate group dog obedience classes are  offered as interest increases and a list is formed.

Your Sanctioned/Certified Professional Dog Trainer

Your trainer is Susan Bernhart, Southern Minnesota’s most experienced and undisputed go-to expert in all things dog obedience and agility.  Susan does not delegate the training of your dog to other non-certified, less experienced instructors. Here, you receive highly personalized one-on-one instruction from a master trainer. For more than a decade she has trained more than 1,800 dogs of all breeds in obedience and agility at her own fully equipped, fully-matted indoor dog training facilities in Owatonna. She is a sanctioned Certified Professional Dog Trainer- Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (, which requires on-going comprehensive training and education.

Is Certification Important?  Absolutely!

Don’t just take it from us, take it from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers.  It is a mark of high professional distinction, requiring many hours of study and rigorous exams to develop mastery of science-based dog training programs. Susan has maintained this level of excellence for more than  ten years.

Dog training is a true science, but the industry is (as yet) unregulated with no licensing requirements or regulatory oversight. This makes it difficult to know what to look for.  Anyone can claim to be a dog  trainer. That’s where the independent certification process comes into the picture. This give you a way to hone in on dog training professionals whose knowledge and skills have stood up to rigorous, on-going standardized knowledge testing.  More states are moving towards certification as being a requirement for all dog trainers.

Susan has also competed in many regional as well as national agility competitions including three times at the prestigious US Invitational for Top-Five of Breed.  She trained one of her dogs to AKC’s agility “Top Dog” of breed and also was ranked #11 in 2011 in agility over all dogs in the entire United States.

Susan has the requisite skills and knowledge to work with your dog:

Studied/tested accredited expertise in:

-Basic, advanced obedience

-All levels of agility

Master Course Completed: Aggression in dogs (Instructor: Michael Shikashio, world renowned aggression expert, CDBC)

-Shelter dogs

-Anatomy (complete)

-Separation anxiety

-General dog behavior

In short, your dog will be in the hands of a fully certified, nationally recognized, award-winning and highly experienced caring professional who has trained all major breed categories listed by AKC.  She wants your training experience to exceed your expectations.
